On This Day in the Life of Paramhansa Yogananda…

April 11

1926

Luther Burbank, Yogananda’s friend and a famous botanist, passes away. In the chapter of Autobiography of a Yogi about Luther Burbank, Yogananda wrote,

In tears I thought, “Oh, I would gladly walk all the way from here to Santa Rosa for one more glimpse of him!” Locking myself away from secretaries and visitors, I spent the next twenty-four hours in seclusion.

Yogananda dedicated the entire book to “Luther Burbank, an American Saint.”

1937

Yogananda addressed “special reopening services” at the Los Angeles Temple and new College of Inner Culture.
